Description
The Merrimack Valley is named and defined
by the river that runs through it. The Merrimack River was
an essential element of early life here and the development
of many surrounding towns. Today, the river provides a home
to a family of bald eagles and countless other wildlife,
a recreation area for kayakers and boaters and an arena
for fisherman to try their sport. Many of the towns in this
region were built around the river.
The Merrimack Valley Region is every bit as diverse as its
people. It is the major center for government and business
in the state. Its three largest cities are Concord, the
capital, where the fourth largest deliberative body in the
world, the State’s legislature, meets; Manchester,
the state’s financial center and home of the state’s
largest airport; and Nashua, which was cited in 1997 and
1987 as the best place to live in the U.S. by Money magazine.
